1 Boating in Mattupetty Dam

Mattupetty dam is around 13 kms away from Munnar towards Kundala and Top Station. Mattupetty lies 1700 m, above sea level and that itself makes this place an ideal location for trekking and hiking. Numerous rivulets and cascades adds beauty to the Blue Mountains surrounding the dam.

Boating can be done at Sun Moon valley, a recent tourism initiative by Kerala State Electricity board. Different kind of boats are available here namely, speed boats, high speed boats, regular boats etc. Speed boating through the vast azure lake of Mattupetty is an adrenaline rising experience.

2 Horse riding near Kundala dam

Kundala is a small dam 20 kms away from Munnar. The serene beautiful lake is always a good place to do Shikara and Pedal boating. Horse riding is yet another attraction at Kundala Lake. IF you would like to click some photos with your loved ones, the beautiful hills sets the perfect background. Kundala is a major Munnar sightseeing destination.

Most of the visitor do not know about a Golf Course which belongs to Tata Tea Ltd. Kundala Dam is asia’s first arch dam.

3 Top Station

This picturesque view point is around 40 kms away from Munnar and is beyond Mattupetty dam. This beautiful place boarders with Tamilnadu and is around 1,880 meters above sea level. On a perfect day you can see the far stretches of Tamilnadu and the mist covered Western Ghats. Top station is one of the most covered Munnar sightseeing places.

Top station is also known for “NeelKurinji” which blooms once in twelve years.

4 Eravikulam National Park

Eravikulam National Park is around 15 kms away from Munnar town is the most sought after destination in Munnar. Most of the tourists include a visit to this place in their thrilling Kerala Tour Packages

This national park is famous for the abundance of Nilgiri Thar. The view from the top most point is a breath taking one. It offers the view of distant mist covered blue hills of Munnar with occasional lakes. Eravikulam is on the top of Munnar sightseeing places for most of the visitors.

Visiting time – 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

Tip – Not suitable for aged people as they need to hike a bit. Park is usually closed during the month of February and March. Online booking can also be done.

5 Echo Point

Echo point is an attraction near Top Station and is famous for the natural echo phenomenon. Children would love to visit this place during you next Munnar tour.

6 Tea Museum

If you love history, there is a place for you in Munnar – Tea Museum. It is one of its kind in India. It is a great place to learn the history of Munnar as a tea growing city. A visit to tea museum offers a chance to see the bygone era at Munnar.  Visitor also get to see the typewriters, furniture, magneto phones, manual calculators, fax machines that belong to 1900’s.

7 Attukad Waterfalls

Attukad waterfalls is a medium waterfall near pallivasal, Munnar. The waterfall is in the midst of a jungle and can only be reachable through a wooden bridge. 8 Punarjani Traditional Village

9 Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

Chinnar wildlife santury is on SH 17 and is around 60 kms away from Munnar town. If you like treeking and hiking, there are many options available including overnight stay inside the forest. Vasyapara camping is ana exciting experience during monsoon season. Animal encounters are very often in this route especially during night.

10 Marayoor sandal wood forest

Marayoor is the world famous sandal wood forest in Kerala. 60 kms away from Munnar, this place is the only place in Kerala where sandalwood grows naturally. Marayoor is also known for the doldrums of ancient times.

11 Kolukkumalai tea estate

Kolukkumalai tea estate is the highest organic tea gardens in the world. 40 kms away from Munnar, Kolukkumali is around 2440 meters above sea levels. The tea factory still uses the traditional machines to produce the best organic tea.

A jeep safari to this place is always a memorable one. The best time to visit this place is early morning and the view of sun rise is a very beautiful. Munnar sightseeing is not complete without a visit to Kolukkumalai.

Tip – Jeep Safari will cost around Rs 1800 and try to visit during early morning.
