The Kerala State Motor Vehicle Industries Protection Committee has called for a token strike in the state on June 15 in protest against the decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to ban all diesel vehicles over 2000 CC from the roads of six cities of Kerala.

The meet also decided to stage an indefinite strike from July 23- when the two-month stay by the High Court will end- if the issue is not resolved.

The decision was taken by the coordination committee meeting of motor vehicle owners and other ancilliary industries in this sector under the banner of the Kerala State Motor Vehicle Industries Protection Committee here on Monday.   The decision of the circuit bench of the NGT is impractical, anti-people and an infringement on the rights of citizens, the meet observed. The meet appealed to the government to intervene and initiate steps  to annul the NGT order. If the ban in Kerala was due to pollution caused by diesel vehicles, why is it that it was not banned in cities in other states lying close to the Western Ghats? they asked.
