2018 Hero Karizma ZMR re-launched in India, priced from INR 1.08 lakh
A quick call to a local dealership revealed that the company has indeed re-launched the 2018 Hero Karizma ZMR in India. However, the bike is yet to reach dealerships and deliveries will commence once Hero MotoCorp officially announces the re-launch. The 2018 Karizma ZMR is available in two variants – standard and dual-tone – that cost INR 1,08,000 and INR 1,10,500 (all prices are ex-showroom Delhi), respectively.
According to SIAM sales data, Hero MotoCorp shipped 17 units of the motorcycle in May and 12 units in June. Hero MotoCorp is currently working on the next-generation Hero Karizma, which is likely to launch by 2020. The Hero Karizma was first launched in 2003 in India and has enjoyed a cult status amongst Indian consumers. Over the course of the past 15 years, the bike has received substantial cosmetic and mechanical upgrades. However, rising competition resulted in a decrease in the sales numbers and Hero MotoCorp finally discontinued the Karizma ZMR in April 2017 owing to the introduction of BS-IV emission norms.
The re-introduction of the Hero Karizma ZMR is surprising, to say the least, and it will be interesting to see how Hero MotoCorp plans to tackle the BS-IV norms. The current norms mandate all new two-wheelers above 125 cc-class to feature fuel-injection system and ABS as standard. While the Karizma ZMR comes with fuel injection, it doesn’t get ABS even as an option. That said, Hero can get away without offering ABS as technically, the motorcycle isn’t all-new.
The 2018 Hero Karizma ZMR sources power from a 223 cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine with fuel injection. The oil-cooled motor is capable of producing 20 bhp of maximum power at 8,000 rpm while developing a peak torque of 19.7 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The motor pairs to a 5-speed gearbox. The Karizma ZMR has a claimed top speed of 129 kph while Anchorage comes from disc brakes at front and back. Telescopic front forks and 5-step adjustable twin shock-absorbers handle suspension duties on the bike.
