A section of KSRTC employees, under the KSRT Employees Association affiliated to the CITU, has declared a 24-hour strike from Thursday midnight.
P.K. Prasad, district secretary of the KSRTEA, said the employees were on an agitation for the past one week raising various demands.
He said there was a move to give up the prestigious Krishnapuram-Kavalam route in favour of private operators. In addition, there had been a series of incidents at the Changanassery depot where in employees were allegedly ill-treated.
The members of the KSRTEA who protested against these moves had been placed under suspension.
He said the zonal authorities had adopted an apathetic attitude at the talks held on Wednesday.
“We have no other go but to call for a 24-hour strike,” Mr. Prakash said.
He said the strike had been called in Kottayam district but added that the other district units of the KSRTEA would also join the agitation if the authorities refused to accept their demands.
