Abu Dhabi Police rescue 60-year-old stranded in desert

The Abu Dhabi Police have rescued a 60-year-old man, who was stranded in the desert after his car got stuck in the sand. The operations room received a report that the man was left stranded in Al Ain’s Nahal area and his phone had run out of battery.

An air ambulance that was immediately dispatched conducted an aerial survey of the area. The police found his vehicle stuck in the sand in the north of the Nahal area. The helicopter landed next to it and found the citizen safe inside.

The crew checked his health conditions and after ensuring he was safe, contacted his family. The citizen and his family have thanked the police for their prompt action, the police said in a Press statement.

“The man said he had stepped out for a desert drive, but got stuck on a sand dune. He called his family, but couldn’t guide them to his location in the desert. After his phone ran out of battery, his family got worried and contacted the police,” the police said.

General Ibrahim Hassan Al Baloushi, director of the Abu Dhabi Air Wing department, said those planning a desert drive should save emergency numbers on their phones and immediately seek help if they get lost.
