The bus body building unit of the Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) here will add another feather in its cap, when the first super deluxe bus will roll out from its production bay on March 25.
The first one will be a proto-type model and based on the feedback, the production of the bus body will go online. ‘’It will be our first bus body built for super-deluxe coaches,’’ T Raghunath Rao, works manager of the bus body building unit of the ASPRTC at Miyapur, has said.
The body of the super deluxe bus, that will be rolled out will be made of galvanised iron tubeless structure. Based on the feedback, necessary modifications would be carried out accordingly.
Till date, the unit, which commenced its operations in 1988, had been manufacturing bus bodies for express services, city buses and Palleveulugu buses, while the bus bodies for the super deluxe buses were fabricated by different private firms.
From receiving the chassis of the bus to rolling out the finished bus from the assembly line, it involves 12 stages and 350 employees of the bus building unit strive hard to ensure that every coach that is rolled out from the bus bay is perfect and long lasting.
‘’Once the chassis, which will be either Tata or Leyland are received here from the respective companies, our work starts. It takes 14 working days to complete a body for a single bus,’’ he explained.
On an average 50 buses are rolled out from the bus building unit, which is only one such unit of the corporation, which has the world’s largest bus fleet of 22,555 buses of various types and categories.
The state road transport corporation, which transports 13.33 million people on an average every day, has great need to keep itself constantly infused with new buses in the place of the worn out ones and that role is performed by the bus bay unit. First super luxury Bus, entirely fabricated in APSRTC’s own bus bay unit will be flagged off by the organisation’s v-c and MD AK Khan on Monday.
