After upgrading all the district level bus stations in recent times, the APSRTC has now embarked on the process of replacing old buses in near future, APSRTC vice-chairman and managing director N Sambasiva Rao said.

Addressing media after a visit to the NTR bus station in Guntur on Saturday, he said the Corporation will introduce 4,000 new buses into service in the coming two years, in addition to 850 hired buses. As of now, the government released a budget of Rs. 100 crore to APSRTC for purchase of new buses every year, he said. “However, we will request the government to enhance the budget and will also search for alternate sources for purchase of the new buses,” he said.

Stating that the corporation already developed 17 bus stations in various parts of the State with an amount of Rs. 12.50 crore, he said plans are afoot to develop bus stations in all division headquarters.  “We have identified 40 bus stations located in revenue divisional headquarters and will soon invite tenders for developing them,” he added.

Earlier, Sambasiva Rao inspected the modernised toilets and other upgraded facilities like sitting arrangement to passengers in the bus station and expressed satisfaction over the maintenance. He also appreciated the Guntur region officials for introducing Advance Bus Arrival Information System (ABAIS), a first  in the State.

RTC Vijayawada Zone ED Koteswara Rao, Guntur Regional Manager Gnanamgari Shrihari and other officials were present.
