Beach Tourism to pick up in Ernakulam; 9 beaches shortlisted
Goa is one of the best beach tourism centers in the world. We can find such beautiful beaches in the coastal areas of Kochi. But these beaches are unknown to the world.
The Tourism Ministry of Kerala is all set to promote these beaches as the best places for beach tourism. Under the project, a beach corridor will be built connecting the beaches and it will be used for village tours. The beaches will be transformed with new facilities and hygienic standards without altering its natural beauty.
The nine beaches include Vypin, Munambam, Cherayi, Kuzhuppilly and Ambedkar beach which will be developed under the project. Quality standards will be maintained in the construction of footpaths, parking area and open food courts. Cafeterias and toilets will be constructed in selected beaches.
MLA S Sharma will cooperate with the project which an aim to attract foreigners and public alike. Tourism Ministry has allocated an amount of Rs.4.50 crore to implement the project.
Ernakulam District Joint Director PG Sivan has said that the project will be initiated from August. The project will be implemented under Harbour Engineering Department (HED), Kerala. HED is assigned to give tenders for the project.
Initial inspections, including soil testing, have been completed in all nine beaches.
