Bus conductor suspended for dropping Tamil from route board

A Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus conductor learnt this the hard way on Monday when he was placed under suspension for putting up a route board that had not been given by the Corporation.

The General Manager of TNSTC- Erode, K. Senapathy, took this action along with slapping show-cause notices on the branch manager and the officer in charge of the Kavindapadi bus depot, from where the bus began its journey on Sunday.

TNSTC officials told The Hindu that K. Sreenivasan, the conductor, reportedly put up a route board written in English and Hindi on his own instead of using the one issued by the Corporation for the journey from Kavindapadi bus stand to SIPCOT industrial estate at Perundurai where lots of migrant workers from northern and eastern States work.

“The incident was brought to the notice of some TNSTC officials by the people. A preliminary inquiry revealed that the board was put up to help the migrant workers easily read the route. However, the board did not have the route mentioned in Tamil at all. This is a violation given that no one should display any route board other than the one given by the Corporation in buses,” the TNSTC officials said.
