Dubai Police’s supercar sets world record
Dubai Police’s Bugatti Veyron supercar has set a Guinness World Record as the fastest police car in the world. Blazing down Sheikh Zayed Road at 400kmph is now possible for the Dubai Police force, if the traffic doesn’t stop them first.
Dubai Police reclaimed the record from the Italian police force, which previously held the record of fastest fleet car with the Lamborghini Gallardo, capable of zipping around at speeds of up to 370kmph. The Bugatti Veyron topped that by 37kmph, coming it at a total top speed of 407kmph.
The Bugatti Veyron is a concept car developed by Volkswagen Group to find out the limits and capabilities of a four wheel road-worthy car. Each model costs more than US$8 million (Dhs29.4 million) to manufacture, and is sold for roughly US$2 million (Dhs7.4 million). Volkswagen discontinued production of the Veyron back in 2015, and happily (sort of) made a loss on the limited number of models sold because of the experimental nature of a pure R&D project.
Theoretically, the Veyron can get from Dubai to Abu Dhabi in 20 minutes going flat out. Theoretically.
Of course, the Veyron won’t be used for high speed chases or pursuits – instead, it’s more likely to be found down at The Beach opposite JBR or in other touristy hotspots, looking for attention.
Dubai is probably the only city in the world where tourists can take selfies with police officers in front of a police-branded supercar.
