Transport minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan told the assembly that the government was exploring the possibility of regularizing temporary KSRTC staff appointed against reserved vacancies.
However, the high court verdict asking the government to recruit from the PSC list is a hurdle, he said. The government will consider all aspects before taking a final decision, said the minister.
Even though advice memos were issued to 1,800 candidates two years ago, the appointments have not been made by the PSC. The government is now in talks with the PSC in this regard.
He said a list of 9,000 was prepared for 3,308 vacancies in the past. From this, only 1,800 have been appointed so far.
Though the government’s move to create driver-cum-conductor posts has been accepted by the driver’s union, the conductor’s union is not in favour of it, said the minister.
The UDF government has added 2,024 buses to the corporation’s fleet. This includes the buses received under JNNURM scheme. The government is also in the process of finding ways to purchase buses using the MLA fund, he said.
