Emirates A380 flight from Dubai makes ‘majestic’ landing in thick fog

This is the moment an Emirates plane seemingly appeared from nowhere to land on a London runway.

Pilot Tom Jones was able to capture the moment an Emirates A380 emerged from thick fog only seconds before hitting the tarmac.

The overnight flight from Dubai arrived to a blanket of low cloud during its early morning landing at London Gatwick, which made for dramatic footage.

Tweeting the video to its 1.2 million followers, the airline said: “Now that’s how you make a grand entrance.”

Dozens of people have since commented on the video, describing the landing as “majestic” and “beautiful”.

The video has now been viewed more than 50,000 times.

According to the British Airline Pilots Association, fog will very rarely stop the landing of planes at an airport. “Most large airports and modern aircraft are equipped, and pilots are trained, so that landings are possible even in the classic pea-souper by using a combination of the auto pilot, ground systems and techniques that pilots learn during regular ‘low-visibility’ training sessions.”

Emirates is an airline based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The airline is a subsidiary of The Emirates Group, which is owned by the government of Dubai’s Investment Corporation of Dubai.
