Short-distance commuters along the Kanhangad-Bekal route were put to hardship on Thursday when the workers of the private bus fleet plying the route went on a day-long flash strike in protest against the “failure of the police to bring to book those involved in the recent attack on a bus crew near Bekal.”
The KSRTC buses operate only limited stop chain services along the 23-km Kanhangad-Kasaragod route and most commuters depend on the private buses.
The employees resorted to flash strike after Ratheesh, 32, a bus driver, was attacked by a group of people at Kottapuram, near Bekal, after waylaying his vehicle on Monday.
