Here’s why Mukesh Ambani’s BMW 7-Series costs Rs. 8.5 Crore!

Mukesh Ambani is India’s richest man and the multi-billionaire and his family have a fleet of some rather envy-inducing cars. However, it is Mukesh Ambani’s BMW 7 Series that he is chauffeured around in that commands the biggest price tag – Rs 8.7 crores (ex-showroom)? So what is so special about this BMW 7 Series sedan that it costs more than supercars and luxury SUVs? Let’s find out.

The BMW 7 Series used by Mukesh Ambani is the High-Security variant which is based on the top-of-the-line 760Li version of the luxury sedan. The modifications made to transform the 760Li to the 7 Series High Security are quite discreet and ensure that the car doesn’t look too different compared to the ‘regular’ BMW flagship sedan.

The 7 Series High Security was the first armoured car to fully comply with VR7 ballistic protection standards. The interiors of the door panels feature kevlar plates and the glass on each bulletproof window is 65mm thick and weighs 150 kilogrammes.

The BMW 7 Series High Security can withstand attacks by military-grade weapons like the AK-47 and hand grenades. The armoured 7 Series can also withstand high-intensity blasts created by up to 17 kilogrammes of TNT. The fuel tank of the 7 Series High security is made from a self-sealing material and is also fireproof.

The BMW 760Li High Security also comes equipped to respond to chemical attacks and has oxygen stored inside it for use in cases such attacks occur. The cabin is also fire resistant and has an automatic fire extinguishing system in place. The dual-layered tyres can withstand bullet attacks and even if they’re pierced, the armoured BMW 7 Series can still do up to 80km/h.

What powers the BMW 760Li High Security?

The BMW 760Li High Security is powered by a twin-turbo 6.0-litre V12 petrol engine that produces 544 Bhp @ 5,250 rpm and 750 Nm of torque @ 1,500 rpm. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The BMW 760Li High Security can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds and will continue to accelerate till it tops out at 210 km/h. The armoured BMW 760Li can be tracked by satellite and has an intercom system that can be used to call for support in case of an emergency.

To meet the VR7 standards for armour protection, the weight of the armoured High Security is considerably higher compared to the regular 7 Series. BMW thankfully has upgraded the limo’s suspension and braking setup to deal with the added mass.

What’s The Price for all the technology and safety gizmos?

The BMW 7 Series High Security is a fortress on wheels and all the extra add-ons that make it so secure cost a whole lot of money. The BMW 7 Series High Security retails at Rs 8.7 crores (ex-showroom) which is three and a half times the price of the regular. Also, the registration for the High Security cost Rs 1.6 crores, which can easily net you 50 Renault Kwids! However, life is priceless and paying a ridiculous amount for that if you can afford it as Mr Ambani does, makes total sense.
