The draft plan submitted by KITCO for second phase development works at Vyttila Mobility Hub by adopting the design-build-operate-transfer (DBOT) method will be placed before the Planning Board for its permission.
The executive committee of Vytilla Mobility Hub Society had asked KITCO to revive the initial Rs.430- crore plan, which the Board considered was too costly due to ‘over engineering’. Referring to private involvement in the project, the Hub’s MD, R. Girija, said that there is no question of handing over total 25 acres of land to private investors.
“Green spaces and many other common spaces will continue to be vested with the Hub Society, as part of non-negotiable components. There will also be a penalty clause as per Central norms. The final decision on private participation has to be taken by the State Cabinet,” she said.
The hub will specify all mandatory requirements, including parking area. The areas handed over to private player(s) will return to the government after around 30 years. The Planning Board had earlier objected to setting apart too much space for commercial establishments, since this would escalate cost and also cause commotion in what was envisaged as a hub for inter-modal transport.
In the meantime, the Hub Society is expected to convene a meeting of traffic police and private bus operators to discuss issues like speeding by buses within the hub and in the vicinity which poses danger to members of the public.
