Hyderabad: Woman doctor caught for drunken driving

A woman doctor was caught for drunken driving by the traffic police.   In fact, the traffic police has recorded a substantial increase in the number of women drunken drivers being caught.

“We had stopped a car at around 11.45 pm at Road No. 12, Banjara Hills. It was being driven by 28-year-old gynaecologist Akhila Iyagari. Her blood alcohol level was 52 when tested. Her vehicle has been seized,” said Banjara Hills traffic inspector Uma Maheshwar.

As per the rule, BAC of 30 mg is permitted and only people caught with over 30 BAC are booked for drunken driving. While the vehicle is seized on the spot, the offender is produced before the court the following day and punishment is meted out.

Over the last four years, the number of women drunken drivers being caught has increased. “In 2011, when checks were implemented for the first time, no women drivers were caught. Though, in 2012 and 2013, 14 and 15 women were caught respectively. Last year, 17 women were caught while this year so far, 11 women drunken drivers have been caught,” said Traffic Training Institute inspector P. Srinivas.
