An expert appointed by the state government for reviewing the functioning of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has recommended a downsizing to bring it out of the red.
In his draft report, Susheel Khanna, who was appointed for placing recommendations for thorough a review of the corporation, has proposed to bring down the staff per bus from the current 7.2 to 5.2, in consonance with the national average.

He has proposed to conduct a survey to sense the commuter needs and rework the schedules on the basis of its response. The draft report has also mooted a shake-up of the administrative machinery. The corporation should have a full time managing director. A professional approach too has been mooted for various departments. It should have professionals to head the finance, human resource and operations divisions.
Modernization of corporation workshops has been proposed to do away with the delay in completing the maintenance works. Maintenance and repair works in a bus should be completed in a day. A time management system should be introduced to ensure that the services are operating in time. The proposals were prepared after considering the suggestions of the finance and transport departments.
The draft would be submitted to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The government has directed to submit the final report within a fortnight.
