Here in Kerala, we are struggling to maintain the volvo buses in Kochi and Trivandrum. According to the corporation, these buses are a huge loss for them, but according to the media and public, Corporation is not running the buses in needful routes and a proper manner. But just check out whats happening in our neighboring state, Karnataka.
An article from the news paper DNA is given below. According to them,
Crammed buses may soon become a thing of the past. In the coming months, BMTC is planning to launch longer buses which can seat 65 passengers and totally accommodate 110 passengers.
Buses are usually 12 metres long. But these buses will be 14.5 metres long. Made by Volvo, they will be tested by the BMTC before buying them, said minister for transport R Ashoka.
He was speaking on high-end technologies adopted by the BMTC at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Dasarahalli constituency’s first major bus station. On Thursday, he also laid the foundation for a bus station at Mallasandra in Yeshwantpur.
There is a plan to install GPS with camera in KSRTC buses. This will reduce the need for conductors in buses. Two drivers could operate a bus by working in two shifts, he said.
If the BBMP is willing to sell their land at Kalasipalya, a model bus stop could be built there.
“Right now, Kalasipalya is messy. BMTC could build a model bus stop there with state-of-the-art facilities and accommodate BMTC, KSRTC and private buses,” he said.
The corporation also plans to build 50 bus stations in the city.
