Jeep Compass can do some CRAZY things: Proof [Video].
The Jeep Compass has been a steady seller on the Indian market since its launch. In recent times, it has been selling more than the Mahindra XUV 500 too. The Jeep Compass is the most affordable Jeep SUV available in the Indian market and is quite well-equipped to do off-roading. Here is a video that shows what all the Jeep Compass can do off the road.
The video is not from India but the specification of the car shown in the video remains similar to the Indian version of the Jeep Compass. The video shows Jeep Compass entering an off-road location off the tarmac and doing some impressive and hardcore off-roading. There are a few challenges in the video in which only three wheels remain on the ground and sometimes only two wheels of the vehicle remain grounded.
The Jeep Compass in the Indian market is powered by both petrol and diesel engine options. There is a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine available with the Jeep Compass that develops a maximum power of 160 Bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. The 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine available with the SUV produces a maximum of 170 Bhp and 350 Nm. The diesel version of the Jeep Compass gets the 4X4 set-up but it is available with only a six-speed manual transmission.
It should be noted that the regular version of the Jeep Compass does not get a low-ratio transfer case. Instead, it gets an advanced terrain response system known as the Active Drive. It gets Auto, Snow, Mud and Sand Mode and very capable. Whenever the Jeep Compass detects the need of the 4X4 system, it seamlessly engages the mode on the fly. Also, it gets an active braking system instead of the locking differential mechanism too. This feature detects the slipping on the individual wheels and applies the brake to allow the power to flow to the other wheel in the axle. This feature can be seen in use in the video above and how the power is transferred to the wheel that is still touching the ground.
Many 4WD vehicles fail when their wheel lifts off from the ground due to the power slippage. All the power goes to the free wheel and it keeps on rotating without helping the vehicle to come out of the situation. The Jeep Compass’ drive modes ensure that the optimal power is sent to the front and rear axles depending on the situations. This is what makes the Jeep Compass more capable than many other vehicles in the segment. The Compass also gets a ground clearance of 178mm. While it may not sound too great for an SUV but it is enough for doing hardcore off-roading if driven at a correct angle as shown in the video.
Soon, Jeep will also launch the Trailhawk version of the Jeep Compass in the Indian market. With the new variant, Jeep will offer an automatic transmission with the diesel 4X4 variant. It also gets a low-ratio transfer case making it much more capable than the regular version of the Jeep Compass.
