Jeep Compass Trailhawk caught testing in India, launch imminent
Jeep has already tasted success with the Compass SUV in India and the company is keen to follow it up with the launch of the off-road version of the same. That’s Trailhawk SUV and the car has been caught testing in India in all its production finery, which means zero camouflage to hide the looks of the car, reported Team-BHP.
Among the changes introduced to the base Compass to make it more adept to take on the rough include an all-wheel drive system that would be standard across the entire range. Further, there is going to be a central console mounted circular knob that can be used to select multiple driving modes. Those include a rock mode which you can select when negotiating a rocky terrain or a crawl mode that will unleash the maximum torque to the wheels.
Other off-road specific changes introduced to the Trailhawk compared to its regular version include new front and rear bumpers that offer better departure or approach angles. Also of course the suspension too has been modified enough to ensure the car remains sure footed and cushions the jerks and bumps to the maximum possible extent. The car sits taller too, a full 20 mm so that the Trailhawk ground clearance stands at 198 mm.
That is not all as the water intake has also been further bumped up by 75 mm to make it stand at a high 480 mm. That liberates a few extra inches that you can wade through when negotiating submerged terrain. Assisting you through your off-road adventures is a 2.0 liter Fiat Multijet engine that is rated at 170 BHP and 350 NM of torque. Transferring that much of power to all the four wheels is a 9-speed, torque automatic gearbox. Also, its 17-inch wheels that the car comes equipped with and is enough to impart a strong and masculine look to the car.
As for its launch schedule in India, there are no official announcements on this though we sure can estimate it reaching showrooms within weeks given that an uncamouflaged unit has been spied testing. On the pricing front, again there are no official info available as yet though unofficial sources have pegged the amount to be around the Rs. 25 lac mark for the base model.
