The state government has sanctioned an amount of Rs 77 crore for Kerala State Road Transport Corporation(KSRTC) to pay both salary and pension dues to its employees. The order sanctioning the amount from the non-plan fund was issued on Monday.
The ailing public transport corporation requires nearly Rs 65 crore to pay monthly pension to retired staff members and another Rs 85 crore for salary of the employees. KSRTC utilised the amount provided from the government to distribute salary on Monday itself and it managed to put in the extra required amount. Since there was no restriction from the treasury in disbursing the sanctioned amount, the salary was distributed without much hassles.
As per the order, the government would take back the provided grant from the pension amount reserved by the government for the retired staff of KSRTC.
The pension has been due from the month of April, while the salary for the month of June was pending. KSRTC had paid a part of the pension amount a week ago.
