Kerala Urban Road Transport Corporation (KURTC)
The Kerala Urban Road Transport Corporation (KURTC) is a state-run bus company which operates more than 500 low-floor buses (A/C & NON A/C) in Kerala.
The low-floor buses procured with the financial assistance from the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and operated by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) are to be brought under the newly formed Kerala Urban Road Transport Corporation (KURTC).
KURTC runs complete and individual services in Ernakulam & Thiruvananthapuram districts. The remaining 12 districts are divided into 5 clusters ; Cluster I comprises Kozhikode, Wayanad and Malappuram; Cluster II Kottayam, Thodupuzha, and Pathanamthitta; Cluster III Kannur and Kasaragod; Cluster IV Thrissur and Palakkad; and Cluster V Kollam and Alappuzha.
The Kerala Urban Road Transport Corporation was formed in November 2014, with headquarters in Thevara in Kochi, to operate low-floor buses which are procured with the financial assistance from the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).It will have separate account and logo which are in progress.
The selected employees will be provided training by Volvo.
The KSRTC will get Rs.100 for parking a low-floor bus in its depot.
The KURTC is also to be billed for the maintenance and repairs of the buses by the KSRTC at its workshops.
The KSRTC, he pointed out, is maintaining a separate balance sheet for the income and expenses received and incurred by JNNURM buses.
