Passengers travelling to Bengaluru from Thiruvananthapuram have been inconvenienced ever since all three Volvo buses running on the route were taken off the roads by the KSRTC in response to the large number of complaints it received regarding the services.
The buses are currently in workshops, two in in Bengaluru and another in Ernakulam, and repairing them could cost the authorities nearly Rs. 16 lakh.
But Chief Traffic Manager, K.M. Irshad, claims the repairs have started and two services will resume shortly.
A dispute with the Volvo service centre on the cost of repairing the two buses has been amicably settled and they could be back on the roads soon, confirm sources.
No decision has, however, been taken yet on the third bus waiting for repairs at the Ernakulam depot. “The repair has been held up because we are not able to get the spare parts,” explains an officer.
Meanwhile the corporation is considering introducing A/C buses in the sector to compete with private operators. “Once we have the approval of the board these services too will hit the roads, ” the officer adds.
