KSRTC crew turn savior for lady doctor
The crew of a KSRTC Volvo bus conducting service in the Ernakulam-Bangalore route is winning accolades for their generous act which saved the life of a lady doctor. In a heart-warming gesture, Driver-cum-Conductor V.R. Baiju and Driver V.D. Girish of Ernakulam depot not only drove back some distance to rush a passenger suffering from fits to a near-by hospital but one of them also stayed back at the hospital till her relatives arrived there. The passenger, one Kavitha Warrier of Thrissur, had bought a ticket for Bangalore on June 3rd. The bus reached Hosur around 4.30 am when the lady passenger suddenly began to shiver.
“They stopped the bus and managed to obtain an iron key to be placed in the convulsing patient’s hand. But when it didn’t work out, they didn’t waste another second. One of them got out of the long bus and asked vehicles coming from behind to make way. The bus took reverse as they had seen ‘Janani Hospital’ around 500 metres back,” said Sabit Thomas, a passenger who was in the bus and who helped the crew in taking her to the hospital.
The crew didn’t think twice when the hospital authorities asked them to pay admission deposit. However, the doctors insisted someone should stay back for proceeding with the treatment since the condition is a bit serious. “Most of us needed to report at out office on Monday morning. The crew immediately rung up their senior officials and sought permission for one of them to stay back. The nod was given but the officer said it’s purely upto them,” he said.
Baiju stayed back while Girish drove the Volvo bus with the remaining passengers to Bangalore. The passenger’s relatives were informed immediately and Baiju stood as a bystander till they reached the hospital around 9 am. Her relatives obtained discharge and took her to another hospital. They thanked the KSRTC crew whole-heartedly and even dropped them at the nearby metro station while taking the woman to another hospital.
