The State Disaster Management Authority has issued red alert in six districts in the wake of heavy rain triggering landslips in many areas. The red alert has been issued in Kozhikode, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasargod and Palakkad districts. The police have been instructed to hold announcements in areas vulnerable to landslide and flash flood to take adequate precautions for people.

Further, orange alert has been issued in Idukki, Kottayam and Alappuzha districts where officials of various departments have been advised to stay alert. The Central Water Commission also warned that the water level in major rivers are likely to increase as a result of heavy rain, which trigger flash floods and landslide in vulnerable areas. An emergency response team is already in the area where rain triggered landslide in Kozhikode and another team from the National Disaster Response Force, Arakkonam, will be reaching here soon, said SDMA member secretary Sekhar Kuriakose.
Alert in Sabarimala
Pilgrims have been advised to avoid travelling to Sabarimala on motorbikes, three-wheelers, and open vehicles as part of the opening of the temple for monthly poojas which will be held between Thursday and Tuesday. In case of any eventuality, the control room at Pathanamthitta Collectorate (0468 – 2322515) has to be alerted.
Fishermen warned not to venture into the sea
Thiruvananthapuram: The IMD has warned fishermen not to venture into the sea. ‘’Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough along and off Kerala, Karnataka coasts and over Lakshadweep area. Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea along and off Karnataka, Kerala coasts and over Lakshadweep area,’’ IMD said.
CM issues directives, NDRF to arrive soon
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday instructed the Chief Secretary and the District Collectors to take urgent measures to tackle monsoon-related havoc. A 48-member NDRF team will soon reach Kozhikode, one of the worst-affected districts, he said. A second team will arrive in the state as a reserve force to handle contingencies. The Transport and Labour ministers are monitoring the situation in Kozhikode district, the CM said.
Curbs between Makkoottam and Perumbadi till July 12
Kannur: All modes of vehicular traffic between Makkoottam and Perumbadi of Kodagu district in Karnataka on the Thalasserry – Mysuru inter-state highway have been banned till July 12, said the Deputy Commissioner of Kodagu District. During this period, those who travel from Thalasserry to Mysuru via Kodagu can opt for the Mananthavady-Tholpatty-Kutta- Hudikkeri-Gonikkoppa-Thithimathi-Mysuru route, release said.
