KSRTC MD blocks technical dept’s move to buy 250 AC buses
Thiruvananthapuram: KSRTC Managing Director A Hemachandran has stalled the technical department’s move to purchase 250 AC buses with loan from KIIFB.
The technical department has made an attempt for the large scale purchase when the demand is for just 60 buses. Following this, the application submitted to KIIFB was revised. Now it has been decided to buy 60 single axle AC buses.
Presently, KSRTC does not have enough permits to run 250 buses. The technical department had moved the recommendation for 250 buses without property study. In inter-state routes, KSRTC runs multi-axle buses.
Buses owned by KSRTC were taken off the roads after rolling out the leased Scania buses. Theses buses service the routes previous occupied by deluxe buses.
It is learned that KSRTC could not be able to run 250 buses even after signing an agreement with Tamil Nadu. A maximum number of 60 buses are sufficient to start inter-city services also. The technical department increased the number of buses without considering these facts.
