The Kerala High Court on Friday observed that contempt of court proceedings could be initiated against the managing director of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation and State Transport Secretary.

“Half of November has already rolled by and retired employees cannot be allowed to starve without their monthly pension”, the court held.

Justice V.Chithambaresh referred the pleas to Acting Chief Justice Ashok Bhushan for placing the matter before an appropriate bench dealing with contempt of court cases. The court was considering a plea filed by KSRTC Pensioners Organisation seeking to initiate contempt action against Antony Chacko MD, KSRTC and V.M.Gopala Menon, Transport Secretary.

The court added that it had on April 22, 2014, asked KSRTC to pay pension to the employees within one month after it was due. A prima facie case was established by the petitioner in these two contempt cases and the same was referred to the Division Bench for further hearing.
