The Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) will train the personnel of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to adhere to the new Bus Body Building Code and to roll out new buses from five body-building units as per the new norms and safety features from October 1.
Officials of the Pune-based CIRT, a Central undertaking under the Union Ministry of Shipping and Transport and the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings, are to come down soon for the training to be held at the Central Works of the KSRTC at Pappanamcode. CIRT personnel will impart training to the engineer and the mechanics at the unit here on how to adhere to the code and to finalise the prototype that needs the mandatory certification of the CIRT, Chairman and Managing Director of the KSRTC Antony Chacko told.
Initially, the transport utility had decided to take the prototype of the bus being built as per the specifications of the AIS (Automotive Industry Standards) 052: Code of Practice for Bus Body Design & App to Pune for approval. Replicating features The jig and fixture needs to be certified by the CIRT to replicate the standardised specifications in the other four KSRTC body-building units at the regional workshops of KSRTC at Mavelikara, Aluva, Edappal, and Kozhikode.
Now, Mr. Chacko said, the CIRT personnel would give on-the-spot instructions to KSRTC personnel so that they can correct the defects and rectify them at the Pappanamcode unit itself before taking the prototype to the CIRT premises. Time and money can be saved by this exercise that needs to be completed to roll out new buses from October 1, he added. The Centre has asked the States to ensure that only buses that adhere to the body-building norms as per Rule 125(1) should be allowed to be registered from April 1.
