The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has returned to plying buses through congested routes in the city where metro work is progressing, citing collection loss.
The City Traffic Police had earlier asked the Corporation to operate its buses to the Ernakulam depot from Vytilla through the Kadavanthra-Kathrikadavu-Salim Rajan RoB route instead of the Manorama-South RoB-MG Road city route.
Similarly, those going via Vytilla were diverted via the Salim Rajan RoB, Kadavantra instead of the Valanjambalam, Manorama route.
“We found that many of the passengers were not boarding the buses, especially the fast passenger routes, since they did not touch the city points. There was an average collection loss of nearly Rs10,000. Hence, we obtained special permission of the police and reverted to the old routes,” Madana Mohanan, District Transport Officer, said.
However, the buses plying to the Aluva side via Edapally would continue to take the Salim Rajan-Kathrikadavu-Kaloor route. On returning to the Ernakulam depot from Aluva, the buses were asked to take the old North RoB, Chittoor road to reach their destination.
Recently, Vytilla was provided as a fare stage for fast passenger services. Now commuters arriving in the city will have to get off at Vytilla and take private buses to reach destinations in the city.
