KSRTC to begin Airport smart bus service trial run from first week of July

Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will start the operation of ‘Airport smart bus’, service connecting airports in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Karipur. The service called ‘Airport smart bus’. The new service will begin with a trial run from July 1. In the pilot period, the service will be operated with chartered buses.

Three buses will be taken for the help. KSRTC has signed an agreement with Force Motors for the trial run. Force Motors will provide buses and drivers to the KSRTC. A KSRTC conductor will be on duty for the new project and fuel for the bus will be arranged by the KSRTC bunk.

KSRTC smart bus will be stationed at the airport. The timings of the bus will be scheduled in accordance with the flight timings. These buses will ply during the night too.

A specified on time service is the highlight of the smart bus. The fully air-conditioned bus has 21 seats. It is learnt that other states including Karnataka run such services from the airport to the city. “KSRTC is experimenting new services to explore the scope of new sectors,” said KSRTC MD Tomin J Thachankary.

Currently, passengers who reach various airports are depending on taxis to reach the city. With the launch of smart buses, passengers can use the service to reach railway station and bus stand easily. To start with there will be at least one bus per hour starting to the airport from respective bus stations.

It seems that the new service will help ease the commutation problems of the travellers. The KSRTC is trying to accommodate the city bus model of Force Traveller. The bus is equipped with GPS, passenger information system,  CCTV cameras and other technologies.
