Thiruvananthapuram: KSTRC will start operating all services that are currently operated from outside the bus terminal from inside the terminal. The move will help ease the traffic troubles near the railway station and Aristo Junction.

According to officials, apart from 712 bus services operated everyday from inside the terminal KSRTC will also operate 500 short distance services from the terminal by November second week.

“We have been informed by the contractor appointed by KTDFC, that the work will be completed by October 31. So, after proper rescheduling, we will shift the bus stops by November 10 inside the bus station,” said A Chandrasekharan Nair, district transport officer. Buses of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation buses will also operate from inside the terminal.

Around 500 services are now being operated from the temporary bus stops of KSRTC in front of Sreekumar Theatre, near the railway quarters and in front of the RMS office at Thampanoor. By November second week, these services will be operated from the 26 bus bays inside the bus station. The short distance bus services include the buses to Kattakada, Nedumangad, Palode, Neyyattinkara, Parassala, Vellarada, Pappanamcode, Kaniyapuram, Peroorkkada, Attingal, Kilimanoor, Aryanad, Vellanad, Vizhinjam and Poovar.

“Though, some of the bus bays remained vacant throughout the day, the short distance services could not be operated from it, as flooring work of the disembarkation area beside the entrance of the terminal was not over. Once it is completed, KSRTC officials can plan to provide all services from the terminal,” said P N Ramachandran, project manager of KTDFC.

“It will take one week to completely rearrange the bus services. Reducing the terminal gap for the smooth passage of all buses and arranging a platform for passengers on the covering of Amayizhanjan canal are plans included in the rescheduling,” added Chandrasekharan Nair.
