The Kerala state road transport corporation (KSRTC) will run its non-stop Silver Line Jet services to Bangalore this Onam to meet the heavy rush of Malayalis heading home.
These buses would have a maximum of four stops only and would be the fastest passenger service to the Garden City.
The schedule is such that Kottayam-Bangalore sector, for instance, will be covered in 10 hours.
“The Silver Line Jet will run on the Bangalore-Kozhikode and Bangalore-Kottayam routes. Besides, we’re operating 10 other Onam specials (Superfast) to the Garden City from depots like Thrissur and Ernakulam from August 24 to September 2. The reservation has already started online at www.ksrtconline.com. The timings and rates have been updated on the site,” said P.M. Sharaf Muhammed, executive director (operations).
The KSRTC inducted the new WiFi-enabled buses into its fleet last month. Currently, the Thiruvan-anthapuram-Kasaragod route is covered in a record 12 hours.
The buses have facilities such as surveillance cameras for the safety of women, laptop and mobile charging and pushback seats among others.
Meanwhile, the corporation’s efforts to operate inter-state buses to new destinations like Goa, Hyderabad and Mumbai failed to materialise as bilateral agreements are yet to be signed with Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh governments.
