Mercedes-Benz India has expanded its AMG line-up with two new performance SUVs – Mercedes-AMG G63 ‘Edition 463’ and Mercedes-AMG GLS 63. The performance bred GLS 63 is priced at ₹ 1.57 crore while the G63 Edition 463 is priced at ₹ 2.17 crore (ex-showroom, Pune). The new models take the German auto giant’s SUV count to eight in the country, the highest in the luxury segment. Both SUVs offer top-of-the-line performance tuned by the folks at Affalterbach, Germany.

Starting with the Mercedes-AMG G63, the iconic SUV needs no introduction and is one of the sought after offerings from the manufacturer since 1979. The ‘Edition 463’ was first introduced globally in 2015 and essentially celebrates the iconic G-Wagen’s 35-year-old history. 463 stands for the Mercedes-AMG G63’s internal model code, and has nothing to do with the power figures. In fact, power output from the monstrous 5.5-litre V8 engine stands at 563 bhp at 5500 rpm and 760 Nm of peak torque at 5000 rpm. The impressive figures prompt the G63 to propel from 0-100 kmph in 5.4 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 210 kmph.

The performance SUV also boasts of three 100 per cent differential locks, an off-road reduction gear and the Electronic Traction System 4ETS, that make for impressive off-roading capabilities. The Mercedes-AMG G63 has a load capacity of up to 2250 litres and a massive towing capacity up to 3500 kg. The performance SUV continues to be produced in Graz, Austria and is tested by the AMG engineers.

On the aesthetic front, the Mercedes-AMG G63 Edition 463 gets a stainless-steel underride guard, AMG Sport strips on flanks, dark aluminium finished exterior protective strips, and new 21-inch 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels finished in matte black. The interior is spruced up in a single-tone black designo leather, twin-tone black and light brown leather seat upholstery and dual-tone finished centre console.
You also get colour-coordinated top-stitching on dashboard, front and rear door handles, armrest, handbrake, seat covers and head restraints front and rear, while the cabin gets the AMG treatment in most places.

Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 gets AMG body styling with LED intelligent lights.

Coming to the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63, the SUV is the performance iteration of the standard issue Mercedes-Benz GLS that is already on sale in the country. The performance SUV gets AMG bodystyling complete with the trademark quad exhausts, LED Intelligent Light System with integrated LED DRLs and red painted brake calipers. You also get a panoramic sunroof, ORVM logo projectors, and an Easy Pack tailgate which can be electrically opened or closed.

Inside, the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 gets an AMG steering wheel finished in Nappa leather, temperature controlled cup holder and multi-contour front seats with massage function. You also have Thermotronic automatic climate control, memory package as well as a Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround system.

Power on the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 comes from the same 5.5-litre V8 BiTurbo engine seen on the G63, but power is tuned a tad bit higher with the motor churning out 577 bhp and 760 Nm of peak torque. The SUV also gets AMG Ride Control sports suspension setup with Active Curve Control to restrict body roll.
