One week after the peculiar ‘theft’ of a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus from Mattuthavani bus stand, Madurai City police are yet to nab the miscreants behind the incident.
Police sources said that though multiple leads were being pursued, concrete clues about the suspect had not emerged yet.
The bus, belonging to Virudhunagar Region, had come to Madurai from Shencottai on Thursday night and had been parked at the bus stand.
The driver and the conductor had gone to rest at the crew room.
The bus, which was taken out of the bus stand in the small hours of Friday, was found abandoned at Tirumancholai in Sivaganga district, roughly 25 kilometres away from Mattuthavani bus stand.
“We have obtained a list of TNSTC employees, who were suspended or subjected to other punitive measures, on a suspicion that one of them could have done it out of grudge against the administration,” said a police officer involved in the investigation.
However, he added that the police were not certain that it was done by a TNSTC employee.
“It could also be a stranger under the influence of alcohol as the bus did not require a key for ignition,” another officer said.
Moreover, he added that the ticket boy at the toll gate of the bus stand could not recollect whether the man who drove the bus was in TNSTC uniform or not.
