One arrested for injuring RTC driver
The police have arrested a youth on the charge of seriously injuring a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) driver at Kumbla during a flash hartal called via social media on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Kumbla Circle Inspector K. Premsadan arrested Muhammed Haneef, 24, from Koyipadi on Wednesday morning.
The youth, who the police claimed was part of a criminal gang, was nabbed close to his residence.
The accused was charged under provisions of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act and produced before a court here, which remanded him in judicial custody.
The police are on the lookout for a few more persons involved in violence on the hartal day.
Jomon Mathew, driver of a KSRTC bus plying on the Kasaragod- Mangaluru route, suffered serious injuries to one of his eyes from glass shards after miscreants damaged the wind shield of the bus while it was passing through Kumbla town. Mr. Mathew was referred to an eye hospital at Angamali for expert care, KSRTC sources here said.
The police have so far arrested 105 people in connection with the violent incidents in the district on Monday.
