The authorities of hub are likely to reach an understanding with the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation for parking both the KSRTC buses and private buses bound for the same route on a single platform.
This comes in the wake of mounting protest from all quarters as commuters have to scurry from one corner to other to catch buses plying in the same route as the Vyttila-Vyttila circular buses and KSRTC services are parking at different platform.
The authorities will arrange a meeting with the KSRTC to sort out the issue.
According to the passengers, if private buses in the Vyttila-Vyttila circular route and KSRTC are parked nearby the hardship can be avoided to a certain extent.
“For instance, the private buses are parked on the 11th platform, while KSRTC buses to Cherthala are parked on the second platform. If a passenger misses a private bus, he has to rush with the luggage to Platform 2 located nearly 200 metres away to look if any private bus is parked there,” said a passenger.
KITCO, the consultant for the project, said the meeting would discuss the possibility of arranging KSRTC and private buses at a single bay.
“Earlier, KSRTC authorities had requested for a separate space inside the hub. So we allowed them a separate space. Now, it has causing inconvenience to passengers. Hence, the meeting with KSRTC authorities will be conducted within a week to sort out the issue,” KITCO general manager Cyriac Davis said.
Timing display
The passengers further said that the issue can also avoided if there are boards in Malayalam and English that display timings of KSRTC and private buses. They alleged there is no proper public information system. Cyriac said the hub will display the correct timings of buses. “The hub was redesigned recently as the Kochi Metro Rail has got a halt at the hub. In the new design, the hub was modified with several modern technologies. Proper timing system has also been incorporated. Other advanced technologies included passengers waiting at the hub could know the exact location of the bus before its arrival to hub,” he said.
Eroor residents’ woes
Residents of Eroor have registered a complaint before the hub authorities and PWD officials about the poor condition of the RSC Road opposite to mobility hub entrance, which is leading to Thammanam Road through the under pass.
“When the hub started functioning, the residents in Eroor arriving at the hub have to use the RSC Road to reach Ernakulam. Now, the road has become unmotorable. ,” said a resident in Eroor.
