Passenger alleges theft at Nedumbassery airport

Close on the heels of the incident of theft in the baggage of air passengers at Kozhikode airport, a passenger who reached Nedumbassery airport from Sharjah, alleged that he lost several items including expensive watches from his baggage at the airport.

The video posted by the passenger Naushad on social media alleging theft at the airport is being widely circulated on social media.

Chavakkad native Naushad landed at Nedumbassery airport in an Air Arabia flight in the wee hours of Tuesday. While one of his two luggage came first, his second bag came only after 20 minutes. The Air Arabia staff themselves brought the bag that was in an opened state. The Air Arabia staff told Naushad that some items have been stolen from the bag and they do not know from where the theft occurred.

They also said that they are not sure whether he will get compensation. Naushad said that the Air Arabia staff had given him the list of missing items.

“I noticed that three watches including one that costs 3500 Dirham are missing. However, on reaching home, I realised that creams, shampoo and chocolates are missing. The people behind the theft want expensive items like gold and laptop. When they saw the bag locked, they might have thought that there is something expensive in it. However, they got only a watch. I do not know whether the items were stolen from Nedumbassery or Sharjah airport. I am not much worried in losing the items. However, it is painful when the items brought by people who toil in the gulf countries, get stolen when they return home. My friend film director Prasanth Mambulli who came to receive me at the airport took the video saying that the public should know about this incident,” Naushad said.

Meanwhile, CIAL PRO Jayan said that a probe was conducted over the incident and it has become clear that the items were not stolen at Nedumbassery.

“No case has been registered in connection with the incident. The Air Arabia authorities have informed that they are ready to pay compensation if it is confirmed that the items have been lost,” Jayan said.
