The Kozhikode corporation secretary has been directed by the local self government department (LSGD) to take measures to regularise the construction of the KSRTC bus terminal-cum-shopping complex.

A government order issued by LSGD asked the corporation to exempt the KSRTC from remitting the compounding fee of Rs 12.82 crore in view of the surrender of 25.30 cents of land for the widening of Kozhikode -Mavoor Road by KSRTC.

The chief town planner of LSGD recommended giving exemption under 3C of the Kerala Municipality Building Rules (KMBR).

The rule states that the government can exempt any building when construction is made by government or local self-government institutions or government institutions for a public purpose.

The chief town planner (CTP) in his report said that he visited the site and that the construction violates rules 117, 25 (1), 31, 34 and 45 (2) of the KMBR.

CTP recommended collecting Rs 12.82 crore as compounding fee for the regularisation of the building. The corporation secretary B K Balaraj said that the corporation office has so far not received any official communication pertaining to the order so far.

“Immediate official procedures to issue the building permit will be initiated as soon as it receives official communication. The corporation had already held several rounds of talks with ministers Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Dr M K Muneer and Manjalamkuzhi Ali to resolve the issues related to the sanctioning of the building permit ,” he said.
