Private LS ordinary buses to sport new colour next year

Around 800-odd private buses plying in the state will sport a new colour by next year. The stage carriage limited stop ordinary services were allotted a lighter shade of magenta in the state transport authority meeting held on Thursday. Earlier, these category of buses were allotted a colour code of maroon with white lines in the meeting held on June 14 in 2017.

STA secretary Rajeev Puthalath said the new colour code to the limited stop ordinary private buses was allotted following the demand of the private bus owners. “There had been demand from the bus owners to change the colour of the buses.

Visibility issue was stated as a reason behind the demand and on inspection STA found that it was true. So, it was permitted to change the colour. The colour code was selected from the list of colours given by the bus owners,” said Puthalath.

The change will be brought to effect from September 1, after which any private ordinary bus brought for certificate of fitness test will have to be painted in the new colour. “The previous colour was a dark shade with low visibility after evening hours. It was to prevent accidents that we requested to change the colour to a lighter shade.

The proposed colour is radical red colour (RBG 250 101), which will be visible in darkness. We have been informed that the bus owners who have already painted the buses in maroon need to change to new colour by next year,” said Lawrence Babu, general secretary of Kerala state private bus operators federation.

In a similar situation, KSRTC had changed the colour of its Minnal service to white and red due to low visibility at night. It was launched in Blue shade, indicating the lightning (Minnal).
