Railways will soon run more electric locos in the entire 307-km Mangaluru-Shoranur stretch.
The 12081/12082 Kannur- Thiruvananthapuram- Kannur Jan Satabdi expresses would run on electric locos from Saturday, sources said. Having completed trial run on the final leg of the 85-km-long Cheruvathur-Mangaluru stretch by March end, the Southern Railway has managed to run four pairs of express trains and is in the process of seeking additional electric locomotives as part of bringing down fuel cost and increase speed.
Railways would be able to run more electric locomotives once the work of the Uppala feeder electric substation was executed in two months.
The commissioning of the Uppala electric sub-station would help run all the trains on the Konkan route with electric engines up to Mangaluru Junction.
Apart from this, the ongoing work of the feeder electric sub-station at Jokatte near Mangaluru, which is expected to be completed in another four months, would ensure adequate and uninterrupted power supply to run even more locomotives, sources said.
