SHRC chief Justice J B Koshy issued the order on a complaint filed by Fr Jacob Kallicheth.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a move which will provide relief to mothers travelling with infant, State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has ordered to reserve seat for them in Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses.
SHRC chief Justice J B Koshy issued the order on a complaint filed by Fr Jacob Kallicheth.
The order in this regard has been handed over to the Transport Secretary and Commissioner.
The complaint was that a mother carrying her infant who travelled from Pathanamthitta to Thiruvananthapuram by a KSRTC bus was not given a seat by the fellow passengers including women. As the women passengers were reluctant to vacate the seat for the mother and child, Fr Kallicheth had to vacate his seat for the mother and child.
His demand was that there should be one or two seats reserved for the mother and infants in KSRTC and private buses.
He pointed out that in case of no mother and infant, others may be permitted to occupy the seats.
Justice Koshy said in the order that it was matter of propriety and culture to vacate seat for mother and infant when they have to travel in bus.
