Royal Enfield Bullet 500 vs KTM Duke 200 plus Bajaj Pulsar 220 in a tug-of-war [Video]
It’s a well known fact that the Royal Enfield Bullet 500 has very strong low end torque. But how will this retro-styled motorcycle match up with not one but two powerful, modern 200cc motorcycles in a tug-of-war contest? Well, this has been documented on video. As the video indicates, the Royal Enfield Bullet actually manages to hold its ground initially, and then pulls away from both the KTM Duke 200 and the Bajaj Pulsar 220. But is it torque that does the trick? We’re not sure really, as the Duke and the Pulsar riders don’t seem very co-ordinated.
For most part of the contest, the Bullet 500 seems to be taking on one motorcycle rather than both of them combined. Perhaps the lack of co-ordination between the Pulsar and Duke 200 riders is why the Bullet 500 managed to win this tug-of-war contest.
Talking of specs, the Royal Enfield Bullet 500 does have an outright advantage. It’s over 180 kilos heavy, and is powered by a 499 cc, four stroke engine that produces 26.1 Bhp of peak power and 40.9 Nm of peak torque. The torque is produced at 3,800 rpm, low down the rev range. In contrast, the Pulsar 220 uses a 220 cc air cooled four stroke engine with 21 Bhp-19 Nm. The peak torque is produced at 7,000 rpm. As for the KTM Duke 200, it uses a 199.5cc, liquid cooled four stroke engine with 25 Bhp-19.2 Nm. Again, peak torque is produced at 8,000 rpm.
These specifications signify that the Bullet 500 makes more torque than the Duke 200 and the Pulsar 220 combined. Moreover, the torque made by the Bullet 500 is low down the rev range, giving it a massive advantage right off idle. Also, the motorcycle’s heavy weight allows it to be planted during the tug-of-war contest. While both the KTM Duke 200 and Bajaj Pulsar 220 have forward focused weight distribution, the Royal Enfield Bullet 500 has a near 50:50 weight distribution, another factor that gives it good grip levels.
All said and done, such tug-of-war contests are mere fun activities meant to entertain people. Such contests tell little about a motorcycle’s real time ability on the road. While the Bullet 500 is a relaxed motorcycle focusing on comfort, the romance of riding and great rideability, the Pulsar 220 and Duke 200 are fun motorcycles meant for corner carving and enjoying brief spurts of thrilling acceleration. The KTM Duke 200 and Bajaj Pulsar 220 are completely different motorcycles when compared to the Royal Enfield Bullet 500.
