Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus Limited Edition launched in India at Rs 2.40 lakh
Royal Enfield has launched the latest Classic 500 Pegasus limited edition at Rs 2.40 lakh, on-road, Delhi. Only 250 units of the Pegasus are available though.
The motorcycle commemorates Royal Enfield’s credentials of providing vehicles for use by armed forces since the first ever World War.
The Classic 500 Pegasus takes design cues from the original RE/WD 125 from the World War II era which is a swift 125cc two-stroke motorcycle also called the ‘Flying Flea’. The Flying Flea was air-dropped behind enemy lines with the help of parachutes from onboard the Horsa Glider and was responsible in providing communications support alongside a swift mobility platform for the mobile platform for the forward units deployed of the Airborne Pegasus. There were over 4000 Flying Flea motorcycles deployed during the course of the war, and also included notable places like Normandy (Normandy invasion).
The Classic 500 Pegasus limited edition will be available in two shades – Service Brown, and Olive Drab Green. However, Indian buyers are only going to get the Service Brown colour. Other unique touches include a special serial number stencilled on the fuel tank in memory of the 250th Airborne Light Company which served during the World War II. Other touches include a bespoke set of military-style canvas panniers, Pegasus motif on the tank and panniers, and period correct Royal Enfield badging. The motorcycle will also get a maroon and blue Pegasus emblem – the official Parachute Regiment insignia on the fuel tank and the widely know Royal Enfield – Made Like a Gun decal on the battery box cover unit, in memory of the motorcycle’s heritage.
Every Pegasus edition motorcycle gets brown handlebar grips, leather straps across the air filters with brass knuckles, blacked out silencers, black wire-spoke rims, kickstart lever, pedals, and a blacked out headlight bezel for getting that WWII period look.
Mechanically, the motorcycles remain unchanged from the standard Bullet 500. The motorcycle is powered by a 499cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine which belts out 27.5bhp and 41.3Nm. There are no changes in the chassis, suspension or the tyres on the motorcycle.
