Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has said that the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will sanction Rs.240 crore towards the pension fund for employees.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the bus station-cum-shopping mall at the KSRTC depot at Haripad on Saturday, Mr. Radhakrishnan said that a total amount of Rs.480 crore was required for disbursing pension to the employees.
The KSRTC would provide half of the required amount. He said that while a portion of the pension dues was released on April 10, another portion would be disbursed on April 26.
According to him, the daily income of the KSRTC had increased from Rs.4.5 crore to Rs.6.5 crore within a short span, mainly owing to the cooperation of the employees. Despite the existing crisis, the KSRTC provided concessions to 1,30,000 students. The Minister said the KSRTC garage that functioned at Haripad would be shifted temporarily till the completion of the ongoing works.
Presiding over the function, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said the Assistant Transport Office would be retained in the region.
Facilities
The facilities that were provided at the Haripad depot, including services, would be shifted to Kayamkulam in view of the ongoing development activities.
The functioning of the Haripad depot would recommence within six months, he said.
