Pampa: Five persons have been taken into custody for their suspected involvement in attempt to damage the Sabarimala temple mast. A chemical solution, assumed to be mercury, was found poured on the base (Panchavarghathara) of the mast after the Ucha pooja today.
All the five belonging to Vijayawada were nabbed from Pampa KSRTC stand. Their interrogation is progressing at Pampa police station.
The incident happened around 1.30 pm. Following this, investigations were intensified on the basis of CCTV footage. The guards at KSRTC stand grew suspicious on finding three persons and informed the Devaswom officials. Further police took them to station for interrogation.
Meanwhile, eyewitness told police that one among them tried to scale the mast the other day.
If found involved in the crime, they will be charged for destroying public property and incite religious hatred, police said.
