Paravur: The Supreme Court ordered to close down liquor vends within 500 metre from the highways and the owner of a beer and wine parlour went an extra mile to save his business.
Take a look at the photo and it is nothing but the new path to the parlour.
This route resembling hairpin bends was built using slabs on the rear side of the old bar functioned near the TB on Paravur main road at Ernakulam.
The was closed down after the previous UDF government decided not renew licence issued to 418 liquor vends.

Later, a beer and wine parlour functioned here.
Once the Supreme Court order was implemented, the beer parlour too had to cease its operation.
Soon, the main entrance from the road was closed and the sign boards, except one, were removed. Then started the construction of the new circuitous path using slabs in the land belonging to the owner on the other side of the beer parlour. Once the new route was laid, an entrance was opened from this side and thereby found a solution to escape the 500-m rule.
It may be noted that a government LP school and a temple is located nearby.
When contacted, Paravur Excise Circle inspector said the bar owner has not yet submitted an application for bar licence. Municipal chairman Ramesh D Kurup said the civ body would not issue licence at any cost.
The owner of another beer parlour at Nambooriachan Aal in the locality has also adopted a similar strategy. After closing the main gate near the road, a board which reads that the entrance has been shifted to the rear side has been installed.
The customers can reach the parlour by taking the low-width road on this side.
