The State is actively considering to evolve new projects to strengthen water transport infrastructure in Thrikkaripur by replacing obsolete boats and put in place vessels after carrying out maintenance works, Transport Minister A.K. Sasindran has said.
The authorities had already completed preliminary talks to bolster water transport around Thrikkaripur, Mr. Sasindran told reporters after chairing a high-level meeting at the government guest house Kasargod on Monday.
The reinforcement of water transport service in the picturesque locality blessed with backwaters would certainly be a boon for the tourism sector, he said.
The district was allotted 29 new KSRTC buses – 23 for the Kasaragod depot and six for Kanhangad, he said, adding the buses that completed 13 years of operation would be withdrawn from the roads.
The meeting was attended by Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan, local MLAs N.A. Nellikkunnu, K. Kunhiraman, M. Rajagopalan besides senior KSRTC officials.
