There was a time when we had number of station wagons available in the country. They were never successful in creating a space or trend in the market and failed miserably.

Some of the famous station wagons that were on sale in India were Hindustan Ambassador Estate, Fiat Padmini Premier Safari, Maruti Suzuki Baleno Altura, Skoda Octavia Combi, Tata Indigo Marina and so on.

One such station wagon that was on sale in the 90’s was the Tata Estate. The Tata Estate was a station wagon car produced by Indian car manufacturer Tata Motors (then known as Tata Engineering) between 1992 until 2000.

Tata was already a major player in the heavy vehicle segment and the Estate was the company’s first attempt at building a passenger car. The car was considered fairly advanced during its production time and had many features which were not common among other Indian cars available at the same price range then.

The car came with power windows, power steering and a tachometer.

The Estate’s exterior is based on Mercedes-Benz station wagon design made at the time of conception, in particular the T-series estate-type cars.

Here we have a video that shows a Tata Estate that has been completely restored.

The video has been uploaded by RP Tech Tour on their youtube channel. The video starts by showing the restored Tata Estate. According to the video this is a 1995 model Tata Estate. The car looks in great condition from the outside.

The Estate gets the old iconic Tata logo placed on the front grille with black bumper. The car get a red paint job which looks great on the car.

Even though the Estate in the video is around 25 years old, it looks like the parts used on the car are all original. The headlamp, turn indicators, badging, tail lights all are restored. It looks like the whole body of the car was repainted and there are no visible signs of rust seen on video. It gets the same 15 inch steel wheels with wheel caps on them.

Tata Estate 1995 Model, came with AC Power Steering, Power Window and tachometer. Ex-showroom price was around 7 lakhs. Tata Estate is powered by 1948cc, 4-cylinder diesel engine that delivers out a maximum power of 68 hp at 4500 rpm and a peak torque of 118 Nm at 2500 rpm.

Paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Wheelbase of the vehicle is 2825mm. Overall length is 4625 mm, width is 1700 mm and height is 1610 mm. Kerb weight is 1640 kg and maximum height is 2100 Kg. Fuel tank capacity is 50 litres. Top speed is 113 Km/hr. Mileage is around 10Km to 12 Km per litre.
