The hatchback will come with redesigned exteriors and interiors along with BS6-compliant engines. We expect it to come with new headlamps, taillamps and various other bits. Coming to the interior, it was spied sporting a floating touchscreen similar to the one one the Venue. We also expect it to share various interior parts with the Santro and the Venue. Powering the new Grand i10 will be the same 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engine, albeit BS6-compliant. The 1.2-litre petrol engine makes 83PS and 114Nm, while the diesel makes 75PS and 190Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed MT and a 4-speed torque converter. The latter might be replaced with the 5-speed AMT from the Santro. The Tata Tiago was spied undergoing high altitude testing in Drass recently. It looks like the manufacturer is testing the 1.2-litre BS6-compliant petrol engine in high altitudes as the carmaker will axe the diesel motor from the Tiago’s lineup once new emission norms take effect next year. Tata is also working on a facelift for the Tiago and it is expected to launch by the end of this year. Tata Tiago prices start at Rs. 4.40 lakh for petrol and goes upto Rs. 6.37 lakh. The prices of Tiago diesel variants start at Rs. 5.25 lakh and the top-end diesel is priced at Rs. 6.77 lakh. Tata Tiago is available in 15 variants and 7 colours.

The elder brother of the Alto 800, the Alto K10 packs in a bigger 1.0-litre engine for better city driveability. Moreover, the K10 also comes with an optional 5-speed AMT transmission. Its 1.0-litre engine makes 68PS of power and 90Nm of peak torque. The in-cabin quality too feels better than the Alto 800 the Alto K10 has better features as well. So if you are looking for the Maruti reliability, but don’t want your car to be the entry-level one, the K10 makes for an ideal choice. Also, do take a look at the Kwid 1.0-litre if you are in the market for a 1.0-litre.

8. Maruti Suzuki Celerio

Rs. 4.31 – 5.48 lakh Ex-showroom Price, Delhi

Maruti Celerio was launched as a replacement of A-star and though initial market response wasn’t very enthusiastic, the Celerio has now picked the pace and been selling in good numbers. The smart, urban, and compact design of this Maruti makes it ideal for the congested roads of our cities and thanks to the option of automated manual transmission (AMT), the Celerio is ultra-comfortable to steer too. The small footprints of the car don’t really reveals the cavernous space inside the cabin which is really a pleasant surprise; especially the large rear seat space is really admirable. In addition to AMT, Celerio is available with 5-speed manual transmission which sends the drive from 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder K-series 68PS/90Nm motor to the front wheels of the car. With a sticker price between Rs 4.16-5.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Celerio takes on the rivals like the Tata Tiago, Renault Kwid 1.0, Datsun Go among others.

9. Hyundai Santro

Rs. 4.25 – 5.73 lakh Ex-showroom Price, Delhi

Hyundai has launched a new ‘Era Executive’ base variant of the Santro at Rs 4.15 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Along with the introduction of the new base variant, the Dlite and Era variant have been given the boot. The Era Executive variant gets additional features like body coloured bumpers, door handles and manual HVAC which weren’t available in the Dlite variant. But, it misses out on features like a front charging point and rear AC vents from the Era variant. Compact, roomy, easy-to-drive. These three traits are as true for the current Santro as the original one we saw two decades back. Yes, Hyundai has cut a few corners, but it’s one of the most non-fussy cars you can get today.
