Two TNSTC buses caught fire at Ukkadam bus depot on Thursday night. Police said the bus driver, who noticed electrical short circuit in the vehicle, drove it to the depot from Ukkadam bus stand.

The town bus (route number 3) was plying between Ganapathy and Madukkarai. The driver Ganeshan, who noticed spark inside the bus, asked all the passengers to get down from the vehicle at Ganapathy. Soon after the bus arrived to the depot, it was taken to the workshop at Ukkadam depot for mechanics to check and fix the faults. However, the bus caught fire.
Further, the fire spread to another bus (route number 38), which was parked in the workshop. The TNSTC staff, who tried to douse the fire, informed the fire service station. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and after more than half an hour, the situation was under control.
